David Macaulay, international bestselling author and illustrator, will be the keynote speaker at Bookstock 2010, the second annual literary festival to be held in Woodstock on July 31.
Macaulay, a Norwich, VT, resident and MacArthur Fellow, is the author/illustrator of sixteen widely popular books for both children and adults, from Cathedral (1973) to The Way We Work (2008). In 1991, he won the prestigious Caldecott Award, for Black and White.
Macaulay will open the festival with his keynote address, which also will include a visual presentation of his artwork. Jennifer Shurtleff, chair of the Bookstock Program Committee, says “David is a superb person to follow last year’s keynoter, Reeve Lindbergh. He has universal appeal, and his drawings are some of the best in contemporary American literature.”
After Macaulay’s address, Bookstock 2010 will offer more than fifteen diverse events that involve fiction, nonfiction, children’s books and poetry. Many of the presenters are authors from the Upper Valley. The Festival will be held in Woodstock in several venues close to the village green. A complete program will be announced in March.
